As part of our Golden Reflections campaign, we celebrate the unique and remarkable journeys of those within the Aurora Home Care family—whether carers, family members, or those touched by our compassionate care. Every life tells a story worth sharing, and today we’re excited to highlight Kim Gott’s incredible path from carer to care coordinator. Her journey is a powerful reflection of dedication, personal growth, and the nurturing support Aurora Home Care provides to its team.

Kim started her career at Aurora Home Care in August 2022 as a carer, where her deep compassion and commitment to her clients quickly became evident. Being a carer comes with its challenges, and one of the hardest is losing someone you’ve built a bond with over time. Through consistent care and the familiarity of having the same carers, a deep, family-like connection forms between carers and clients. While this closeness brings comfort and trust, it also inevitably leads to the heartache of loss when a client passes away. Reflecting on these emotional moments, Kim shares, “The things I remember most are the clients we’ve had and the ones we’ve lost. Sometimes it hits hard when you’ve got to know them,” capturing the profound connection that drives her dedication to high-quality care.

Aurora Home Care has not been without its challenges, like all businesses, but throughout difficult times, Kim’s unwavering commitment has remained a constant. Her ability to maintain a high level of care and compassion, regardless of the circumstances, made her stand out. Her leadership qualities soon came to light, leading to an exciting turning point in her career. As our Director, Elaine Reay, shares:

"Here at Aurora Home Care, our service users and our staff are the centre of all that we hope to achieve in our service to our community. We pride ourselves on spotting and developing talent, commitment, and quality within our staff, with a strong focus on training and development. We understand the need to meet with each person individually and create a personal development plan (person-centred care plan in respect of service users), as achievement and development mean different things for everyone. For some, like Kim, it’s career development, while for others, it might be balancing work and family life. Whatever the aim, the achievement is in attaining your own goals, big or small.

Kim worked as a carer initially and was immediately spotted as someone to invest in. She did not raise career advancement with us, as she was content in her role, but we saw so much more potential in her—kind, caring, and fully committed to her service users. Kim was always willing to help, making the care experience better for everyone.

Without realising it, Kim had leadership skills, evident in how she mentored new staff while maintaining the goals, principles, and vision of the company. When a care coordinator role became available, we approached Kim, who was initially concerned due to personal commitments. Aurora supported Kim through this, offering flexibility in working arrangements, which has benefited both parties and, more importantly, our company’s aspirations and care quality. Well done, Kim—we know there’s more to come.”

By February 2023, Kim’s potential as a leader was fully recognised, and she was offered the opportunity to step into the care coordinator role. She officially took on this new responsibility in March 2023, following comprehensive training provided by Aurora Home Care. Kim has excelled in her new position, where her compassion and dedication remain at the core of her work. Not only does she continue to support clients and carers, but she also provides guidance and emotional support to her fellow coordinators, embodying the principles that have made Aurora a leading care provider.

Tara Hoadley, our Registered Manager, echoes the high regard Kim is held in, stating:

"Having worked with Kim for the last year, I have found her to be a truly committed and conscientious member of my team. She’s always willing to take on new challenges and has adapted to change really well. Kim has earned a lot of respect from her team and is extremely supportive. I feel very grateful to have her working alongside me and look forward to many more years together."

Aurora Home Care’s dedication to personal development, flexible working arrangements, and comprehensive training has been crucial to Kim’s success. By supporting her through both personal and professional challenges, we have enabled Kim to thrive in her role, which in turn has enriched the lives of those she cares for and works alongside. Kim’s journey reflects the heart of the Golden Reflections campaign—celebrating the extraordinary stories of growth, compassion, and leadership within our team.

For those considering a career in care, Kim’s story is a shining example of the rewarding opportunities available at Aurora Home Care. Whether you’re seeking personal or professional growth, Aurora is committed to helping you achieve your goals, no matter how big or small.
