Every October, the world comes together to raise awareness and take action in the fight against breast cancer. At Aurora Home Care, we are proud to stand united with millions of people across the globe to show our support, raise awareness, and make a difference through fundraising efforts.
This year, we’re taking a more proactive approach than ever before, focusing on three key pillars throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Empower, Educate, and Eradicate. Here’s a breakdown of everything we’re doing this month to support this life-saving cause and how you can get involved.
Empower: Encouraging Early Detection and Self-Care (October 1st - 10th)
During the first part of the month, we focused on Empowering individuals to take control of their health and encourage others to do the same. Breast cancer can affect anyone, and early detection plays a key role in successful treatment.
What We’ve Done:
Self-Check Reminders: Throughout Empower Week, we shared tips and guides on performing regular breast self-examinations. Early detection saves lives, and self-checks are a quick, simple, and free way to stay on top of your breast health. We’ve provided step-by-step instructions on how to self-check, along with the important signs to watch for, such as lumps, changes in skin texture, and nipple discharge.
Start the Conversation: Empowering others to take charge of their health is just as important. We’ve encouraged open conversations about breast health with friends and family, raising awareness about the importance of routine checks and screenings.
Educate: Spreading Awareness and Dispelling Myths (October 11th - 20th)
For the second phase of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Aurora Home Care is focusing on Educating the community. Breast cancer awareness is about more than just knowing the disease exists—it’s about understanding the facts, preventing misinformation, and taking informed action. Education can empower individuals to make decisions that could save their lives or the lives of their loved ones.
What We’re Doing:
Myth-Busting: There’s a lot of misinformation about breast cancer, so we’re breaking down some of the most common myths and providing facts. For example, many people believe that only those with a family history of breast cancer are at risk, but in reality, most people diagnosed with breast cancer don’t have a family history of the disease.
The Importance of Mammograms: We’re highlighting the importance of regular screenings, like mammograms, and how they help detect breast cancer early. Many individuals are unaware of when they should begin scheduling mammograms or feel unsure about the process, so we’re sharing detailed information to guide them.
#WearItPink Day (October 18th): Aurora Home Care will be proudly participating in #WearItPink Day on October 18th. On this day, our team will wear pink to show support for those affected by breast cancer and raise awareness. We’ve invited our carers and the community to join us! Carers have been asked to consult with their managers to ensure their attire aligns with company policy while participating.
Eradicate: Fundraising and Taking Action (October 21st - 31st)
In the final phase of the month, we’ll focus on how we can all take action to help Eradicate breast cancer. Fundraising for breast cancer research is critical to finding better treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
What’s Coming:
Fundraising for Breast Cancer Now: Aurora Home Care has launched a JustGiving campaign to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now, a charity dedicated to supporting life-saving research and patient care. We’ve pledged that 100% of the money raised will go directly to the cause—Aurora Home Care will not benefit financially from this effort. We’re asking our community to come together and help us reach our goal! You can support us here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/aurora-home-care-breast-cancer-awareness-month.
Stories of Progress and Hope: During Eradicate Week, we’ll be sharing stories of progress, highlighting the incredible advancements in breast cancer research and how your donations are making a difference. From breakthroughs in treatment to stories of resilience, these posts will show the positive impact we’re all helping to create.
Weekly Question of the Week: A Focus on Awareness and Learning
To keep the conversation going throughout the month, Aurora Home Care is running a Weekly Question of the Week every Friday. This feature allows our community to ask questions about breast cancer, and we’ll provide informative answers to raise awareness and dispel confusion. Whether it’s about self-checks, prevention, or the latest research, we’re here to help people learn more and stay informed.
You can submit your questions in the comments or send them directly to our team!
